Observatory is one of the oldest suburbs of Cape Town. Formally a racially mixed middle class neighbourhood, nowadays it is a vibrant student area, with varied and exciting nightlife. The neighbourhood is known for his cosy brightly coloured houses, built in a traditional Victorian style.
A short walk down Milton Road will lead you to Lower Main Road, where you will find restaurants and bars that offer plenty of varied entertainment for students.
         
Divas
This well known pizza and pasta place on Lower Main Street offers good Italian food at a reasonable price. You can enjoy your meal here in a very cosy atmosphere and meet many friends because everybody seems to go to Diva!
OBZ CAFE
Want to have a delicious breakfast or lunch, you should try Obz Cafe. It provides an industrial artistic enviroment where you can chill out on comfortable couches. Obz Cafe also regularly shows important international cricket, soccer and rugby matches.
STONES
A lot of the lodgers play a game of pool or have a drink in this wellknown poolbar. The bar has about 20 tables and a balcony where you can sit down and get some fresh air. As its name Rolling Stones implies, the music is mainly rock. Don’t forget, Stone’s also has a Happy Hour!!
       
 
COOL RUNNINGS
Cool Runnings' Carribbean atmosphere, reggae music and outside terrace will make you feel like you are on the beach. Here you will find a good mix of people. The food they serve has a mixed origin: Thai, kebabs, pizza, pasta, burgers and chips are all available.
       

PANCHO’S
Mexican food, good service and a nice atmosphere. Pancho's at Lower Main Road has it all and will offer you a nice evening. Also for bigger groups. This is a restaurant where you can stay until past closing time because the cocktails are simply delicious!
       
       

MIMI'S
This hip little lunch place offers a variety of food. They are known for their wraps and health food. The atmosphere is very cosy and the music is always mellow. A great place to start the day.

Because the Lodge does not offer any washing facilities, we work together with the Laundromat and Drycleaners in Observatory. They are located just down the street and will do your laundry within a day at an affordable price. In addition, they will also deliver your washed, dried and folded laundry at the door.
       
       
 
PICK N PAY
In this mini shopping mall you will find a branch of the on of the largest supermarket chain in South Africa; the Pick'n Pay. Almost all the lodgers buy their groceries from here. Around 6 pm you will see them queued up in the lines of the check out tills.
