The people who stay in the Lodge are often in Cape town for a longer period of time. Most people are here to do an internship or are here to either study or work for a few months. Most of the people are therefor students. There are also those who are here on holiday, but they are typically a minority. You will find people of many different nationalities in the Lodge. People from European countries such as the Netherlands, Germany, United Kingdom, Ireland, Belgium and France but also from the United States, Asia and Australia. People in the Lodge tend to do a lot of things together, such as travelling, going out, cooking and eating. Since a lot of people come on their own, everybody is very open and eager to meet new people and having a good time together. If you visit the Lodge you will not feel a moment of loneliness, although you can always find a quiet corner to get some work done.

The Lodge is managed by Nelly and her daughter Charmaine. Nelly lives next to the Opposite Lodge and Charmaine has a little appartment behind the New Lodge. They are very friendly and will always help you where needed. They can answer your questions but also help you when you need to buy or rent a car, when you are in need of a doctor or even when you feel a bit homesick!

By Nelly's side you will always find Nuisence and Umkulu. Nuisance is a 13 years old staffie (left in the pictures) who guards the Main Lodge whenever she is available. She is very friendly and always willing to receive a hug from the guests. About a year ago she was joined by Umkulu, a young and very much alive boerboel. Umkulu looks like you should not mess with her but she is probably the friendliest dog of them all. Somewhere around the Lodge, you will also find Lappies the housecat. She has a mind of her own, but she is also very friendly.

Charmaine has 2 little dogs as well: Chaos, an energetic Dachshund (right) and Psycho, a Jack Russel (middle). Even if you are not used to having animals around, you soon will be. They mainly stay in the Main Lodge during the day and bother no-one.
